How SEO can do the heavy lifting for fitness businesses

According to StatCounter Global statistics Google accounts for close to 92% of search engine results and can arguably be seen as the most important resource for businesses. It's the Yellow Pages, but on steroids!

Getting your business as close to the top of a search page is akin to your business or gym being called 'Aaron's All Fitness' in the Yellow Pages, you're at the top!
And, with SEO, businesses have a free way to drive traffic and increase rankings to get there.

Think about it, you go to search 'Gyms near Ballsbridge', you want to join and unsure where's good, you don't have a recommendation.
You look for the results and be honest, do you even think of hitting the second page for search results? No. The results of the first page of a Google search get over 90% of traffic...you cannot afford not to be there.

Getting your business as close to the top of a search page is therefore integral for new businesses. And, in the fitness industry, with a myriad of niche programs, exercises and offerings, key words are your best friend, they allow you to market your business to the customer who is looking for it. It's win/win!

SEO's importance in the fitness industry cannot be overstated. Given various fads, everyone claiming the be an aficionado on the best way to lose weight or 'get those gains', SEO is a chance to rubber stamp your credibility. Your website will be more likely viewed as being dependable and superior to others when it ranks higher on results pages and when it has fresh content.

SEO is a marketing tool that is always on, even though your fitness business may be closed, it is working around the clock to promote your brand.

One of the best things about SEO is it works hand-in-hand with content marketing, and within the fitness industry there is an almost hourly opportunity to create content, from handy tips to maximise your workout, video on form, blogs on the best stretching exercises, it really is endless.

Much like going to the gym, if you put in the work with SEO you will see the results!

  1. Love the headline, Ciara. I would agree, nobody ever really clicks on the second page of Google, to be honest, I rarely even go past the fourth option Google gives me in its results. Its interesting how this ranking system has subconsciously equaled to credibility in our minds. The better a business gets at SEO, the more rewarding it will be for them - as you say, it will be a marketing tool that is always on and its free so why not be as good as you can be with it.

  2. SEO is like going to the gym, you have to go consistently and put in the hours of blood, sweat and tears and you will get results. Completely agree with @OxanaM in that the first couple of pages are the goldmine and it’s rare if people go past them. The first page does seem to equate in people’s minds to ‘these are the best results for my search, no need to look any further’. When you combine SEO and Google analytics it is the way to get higher up on the search engine page. You can just keep giving people more of the content that they want.

  3. What a great title, Ciara! At a glance, you can immediately see how this blog post is directed at those in the fitness industry wanting to know more on SEO. You’re absolutely right, much like going to the gym, if you put in the work with SEO you will see the results. Seeing the stats on how the first page of Google results get over 90% of the traffic isn’t a surprise. You said it, you’d can’t afford NOT to be there. And since implementing good SEO strategies can be free, businesses are basically losing sales not working on SEO.

  4. Google = Yellow Pages on Steroids - Yes I can definitely see that Ciara for sure and that is exactly why SEO is vital for businesses in todays society. I personally cant remember the last time I clicked onto the second page, I mainly click in and out of the first 4/5 sites that come up under the ad's. I do find these results to be the most trustworthy and credible sources and so do 90% of all other users seen as they don't venture to the 2nd, 3rd or 4th pages.
I know SEO is time consuming but it definitely is worth the effort long term and your comparison to the Gym is so true, if you put in the work with SEO the results speak for themselves!. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Ciara

  5. Great blog post Ciara! It’s mad to think SEO is a marketing tool that is always on, even after your gym opening hours. It is great to think you can still focus on SEO out of hours, as this might be the only time businesses in the fitness industry get a chance to work on their online channels. When you flip the stat around it’s just as shocking that only 10% of traffic click on page two of the results page. This just shows how it’s nearly pointless to be ranked on the 2nd page and it is totally worth the effort to focus on keywords so your business ranks on page one.
